What is day care?

Day care is another name for hourly or visiting care when a professional carer visits your home throughout the day to provide the bespoke support you need. You can personalise your care by choosing the time of day, the length, and the frequency of the visits. Whether you choose hourly visiting care, weekly or bi-weekly visits, day care is a great way to receive bespoke and quality care right in the comfort of your own home.

Day care at home can involve a number of services, including personal care, meal preparation, medication management, and household duties. Whatever type of help or support you need, a day care home solution is available to meet your holistic needs.

How much does day care cost?

The cost of day care at home is determined by several factors, including the type of care you choose and the frequency of visits. A comprehensive live-in care package will cost more than occasional visiting or respite care. There may be additional fees if you require clinical care from a nurse-led carer.

Day care from The Good Care Group starts at £1,295 per week for full-time care from six hours a day. Other options are available for different levels of care, including hourly day care.

The cost of day care at home is typically in line with – and sometimes less than – what you would pay for residential care. All with the added benefit of receiving one-to-one tailored care, something that is difficult to achieve in even the best care homes.

Contact our friendly team to arrange for a free home care assessment. One of our trusted care advisors will meet with you and your family to discuss your care needs and how we can support you and your family. Once we have a better understanding of the support you require, we can provide a quote for the weekly cost of day care.

Our prices are always transparent and never include any hidden fees. Since we are a fully managed care provider regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), you also won’t have to worry about agency fees.

Available funding for day care

To help cover some or all of the costs of your care, you may be entitled to either social care funding provided by your local authority or healthcare funding provided by the NHS.

You may be eligible for funding from your local council to cover the cost of day care in your own home, depending on your financial circumstances and care needs. Your local authority will only fund care at home (referred to as social funding) if your assets are worth less than £23,500.

If you have had a care needs assessment and have an identified healthcare need, you may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding (CHC). This is organised by your local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to support you to receive care in your own home. It is important to note that CHC funding is not means tested, so even if you exceed the threshold for social care funding, you may still be eligible for CHC funding from the NHS.

Many families are faced with having to fund the day care they receive themselves (referred to as self-funding care). For these families, there are options to help finance care at home, including a Care Fees Annuity or an Equity Release scheme.
