A rewarding career in care: making a difference every day

The care sector is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling career paths available today.

National Careers Week is the perfect time to explore meaningful and fulfilling career opportunities, and few paths are as rewarding as a career in care. Whether coordinating care, supporting in IT, or providing hands-on care, a role in the care sector allows you to make a tangible impact on people’s lives every single day. If you’re looking for a profession that combines compassion, skill, and personal satisfaction, then this field might be the perfect fit for you.

Over 33% of our non-carer roles were filled through internal promotions last year. Like that of Angelica, who joined  The Good Care Group (TGCG) as a live-in carer, moved into a role within our carer services team and recently progressed into the role of Hourly Care Manager.

Tell us about your time with TGCG?

“I started my journey with TGCG in 2018 as a carer, delivering compassionate, person-centred support to clients. While working as a carer, I pursued my Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications in Health and Social Care, deepening my understanding of care management and compliance.”

What inspired you to transition into an office position?

“With prior experience in office-based roles and a passion for improving care delivery, I was eager to contribute beyond frontline care. I wanted to help shape policies, support carers, and improve processes at an organisational level. This led me to apply for the Regional Support Assistant (RSA) role in July 2023.

During my time as an RSA, I was fortunate to complete a Management Training programme offered by TGCG in 2024, gaining more leadership, decision-making, and operational management skills. Meanwhile, I also completed my BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care, enhancing my confidence and insightful knowledge of evidence-based practice and strategic care management.”

How was the process of transition into an office role?

“The transition was a rewarding challenge. Moving from a hands-on care role to an office-based position required me to adapt quickly, but my experience in quality assurance and client service helped me adjust smoothly. TGCG provided excellent training, and I had a support network that encouraged my growth. Balancing work, studies, and professional training was demanding, but it equipped me with valuable time management and leadership skills that I now bring to my new role.”

What are you most excited about in your new role?

“As an Hourly Care Manager, I’m excited to take on a leadership role where I can directly impact care quality and team development. I look forward to mentoring carers, ensuring compliance with ambitious standards, and implementing strategies to enhance service delivery. My prior experience in quality assurance and leadership roles, and the Management training (mentorship) within the company, have prepared me well for this. I’m eager to apply my knowledge to support staff and clients and to support the company’s vision to deliver high-quality care and service growth.”

What is the support like at TGCG?

“TGCG has been incredibly supportive throughout my journey. That’s not to say I haven’t faced challenges along the way, overcoming obstacles is natural. However, from my early days as a carer to my transition into the RSA role and then to the management, I was fortunate to work within a wonderful team, with a wonderful bunch of people, and I’ve always felt valued and encouraged. The organisation invests in its employees, offering training, career progression, and a powerful sense of teamwork.”
